Case Study: DSI Blast Equipment

Case Study: DSI Blast Equipment

In early 2018, DSI Foods asked RS Refrigeration to help increase their production capacity, including two walk-in blast chillers and a large blast freezer measuring 11 metres long.

The two blast chillers had to bring the temperature of the food down from 80°C to 5°C in just four hours while the blast freezer needed to go all the way down to -18°C. Working closely with our extensive network of suppliers we were able to design a bespoke solution to meet their requirements.

It was determined that the optimum choice was a system featuring three LU-VE Fast Freeze coolers; two 80kW blast chillers and a 130kW 6-fan blast freezer, which weighed 1 tonne. Combining these with custom made Rivacold multiple compressor packs, we designed a system that not only met these requirements but did so in the most energy efficient way possible.

Rivacold equipment was specified to make use of the latest EC fan motors and inverter lead technology. Given the size of the equipment involved this not only reduced running cost but allowed for a system that is infinitely controllable to ensure its efficient operation.  We also provided remote condenser and oil cooler for the blast freezer equipment, specifically selected to fit the restricted space on site.

RS Refrigeration was not only able to provide support from design stage through to practical completion and site verification. We continue to maintain and support our client in the use and training of this bespoke plant and the provision of ongoing maintenance.
